A little about me

You want to start a business or, maybe you've already started....

But actually it's more than that. You want to create a space where the humans you work with can feel seen, heard and known. Where they can come exactly as they are and know that all of themselves will be supported.

You want a business that supports humans to connect with themselves again.

You want to ditch the bullshit that permeates the nutrition and fitness industry, kick the I'm-the-expert-image AND you want to put the joy back into your work (and life) too.

Oh and you also want to bust the patriarchy, weave in social justice, challenge the status quo and take a whole lot less shit.

You're here to do things differently....you're here to do it better.

If it sounds familiar then you are in the right place!

I work to support you to get clear on your values and bring them more confidently into your business.

To bridge the gap between the values you practice by and the how of doing business.

Think of me like the non-diet dietitian version of a business coach.

You are the expert in you, your values and the difference you want to make...I bring space to work it out, a few tools, a collection of resources and the cheerleading to support you to move towards that.

Hey there, I'm Laura Jean (she/her) an Accredited Practising Dietitian (RD equivalent in Australia) who practices with a non-diet, trauma informed, social justice, human centered approach front of mind.

I’m passionate about holding space and planting seeds to support health and helping professionals to create values based businesses where they, and the communities they work with, can flourish.

So, what's my background? I studied Applied Science (Nutrition & Dietetics) at CSU Wagga Wagga from 2000-2003. I've worked in a variety of settings and roles as a dietitian:

  • Community Health - Dietitian ACT Health & SA Health

  • Health Promotion - Officer Diabetes ACT & The Cancer Council ACT

  • Dietitian for Australian Defence Force Personnel

  • Tutor for nutrition and dietetics courses at University of Canberra and UniSA

And amongst all that I've always had a passion for running my own business and doing things a little differently. My undergrad electives were all about business marketing. I started my first business in 2007 focused on a combo of running a mobile nutrition counselling service to clients in the Canberra region and providing corporate nutrition services.

It was here I got really clear on the dietitian I wanted to be and the way I wanted to work. A move interstate put pause on that business but it was the impetus to dive into the online business world and start learning how to do things differently.

I really loved the scope for envisaging a different way for things to be that the online world offered....but there were many practices that just didn't gel with my values....

I had a little career break while kid-wrangling but kept up my professional development, dietitian mentoring and the provision of casual system-disrupting career advice to other dietitians.

And while I'm still kid wrangling I'm also back in the business world working to create spaces for liberation.

For me, my family, my community, the humans I work with and in turn the humans they work with.

Liberation for all humans from the oppressive systems that undermine our innate sense of worth and the work we want to put out in the world.

Liberation for all bodies, liberation for every body (h/t Audre Lorde).
